Okinawa Festival

This weekend was the Okinawa Festival – a japanese Festival in my neighborhood from people of Okinawa with lots of food, dance, music and people from everywhere – and it was so exciting!

As I’ve said before, I’m not from Okinawa, my family is from Akita and Kobe, anyway this party is the nearest to my culture ao I really enjoy this celebration. Almost all of my friends choose to go just one of the days, but I enjoy spending my time there, so I always like to be there Saturday and Sunday. I always meet a lot of friends and acquaintances there and it’s extremely nice! I miss some people a lot but we never have the opportunity to meet, so the Festival is just perfect..

Yesterday, I was with one of my best friends and some of her friends, we walked and talked the whole afternoon until the Festival finished by 20 o’clock (8pm). I met some friends from karate and that reminded how much I miss all of them, and also other people I know.

The whole event happens inside of a park that is practically 10 minutes away from my home, so, today, after lunch, me and my dad went there to watch the karate presentation and it felt a bit nostalgic and nice as always, since it was the same group and school I studied with some months ago that was presenting. I returned home for like 20 minutes until one of my friends arrive, then I went back to the park.

Today I also spend all the afternoon and some of the night there talking, laughing, watching Taiko shows, meeting friends and catching Pokémons as almost everybody with my friend and her cousins. I even could met another of one of my best friends and her brother. Since Friday was her birthday, I had planned give to her a box of homemade chocolates and I did it. It made me so happy to see how happy she was with the gift! She and her brother are some of the nicest people I know!

This weekend was amazing and I feel renewed after I saw so many wonderful friends and was in touch with this incredible culture. More than ready to start a brand new week and be back to my beloved classes and activities.

Good night, hope you have an excellent week!

Lots of love,

Arissa Ayumi
